It's that time of year again - time to look around at all the drop-dead gorgeous prom dresses in stores or at online prom shops. But how do you know which style of dresses is right for you? How will you ever find a prom dress that fits your body figure and personality just right? Prom dresses by famous designers such as Faviana, Sherri Hill, Jovani, and others can look great on you once you find a suitable style.

The key to finding the right dress is to look for a fit that suits your own figure - not someone else's. Throw out the fashion magazines with 6' 4" tall (and ridiculously slender) prom dress models. In real life, many of the dresses worn by models just wouldn't look right on a young teenage girl. But the good news is there are some very beautiful dresses that will work well with your figure. You've just got to find them.

Consider Your Height



Some dresses will make you appear taller while others seem to shorten your height. If you're a petite size and want to look taller, consider a sheath or A-line prom dress. Keep the dress simple, as complex designs and frills will only take away from your height. Skip the big ball gowns - these will only make you look shorter.

Curves or No Curves



Most teen girls would die for more curves, while some feel they already have way too much "curviness" in their figure. If you are one of those blessed with wide hips, opt for a ball gown prom dress style with a full skirt. This type of design draws the eye focus upward to take the emphasis off of your hips. The focus will turn to your slender waist. Some dress styles to avoid with larger hips are V-necks, which cause the eyes to move downward, and sheaths or similar styles.

If your body is lacking when it comes to curves, try a sheath fitted style, or maybe even an A-line dress if you want to appear a little more daring in your prom attire. Prom dresses with an A-line skirt will complement your slender figure while simultaneously giving the illusion of added curves. Hide the Tummy



For a plump mid-section, you can hide your tummy and give it a flattened appearance by wearing dresses with an empire style waist. These gowns will create a more slender and long look while also giving the illusion of a flattened tummy. Another style that works well is a dress with a corset-type bodice, which removes emphasis from the tummy and places it more on the bust area. Styles that can make your tummy show even more are princess style gowns, sheaths, and those with Basque waists, which emphasize the tummy area. Also avoid horizontal stripes and sashes.

Solutions for Heavy Arms



If your arms are on the heavier side, hide them with off-shoulder necklines or short sleeves. See-through lacey sleeves might also help to remove emphasis off the size of your arms. Sweetheart necklines can be helpful because these emphasize the bust area, not the arms. Styles to avoid with heavier arms include spaghetti straps, strapless, and sleeveless dresses. But even with these styles, there are some creative ways to cover up your arms - try a prom jacket or a wrap on for size!

Scooters everywhere! It seems like there is a scooter craze in our neighborhoods, and young children are getting into this activity in a big way. If your child has a kick scooter and now is ready for something of the motorized variety it might be time to consider an electric powered scooter. There are numerous choices in the marketplace, and knowing what factors to consider is important. Many children push their parents to start with an electric scooter that might not be age appropriate. Before you head out shopping try and be armed with some basic information so you are not pushed into making the wrong choice for your child. The first decision point is what style to buy.



The choices are purchasing a "stand up" scooter similar to a kick scooter, which is electric powered, or the riding type similar to a motor scooter. This choice is a function of the age of the child you are shopping for. If the child is in the age range of 6 to 14 years then a stand up, kick style electric scooter is what you are looking for. If your child is 13 to 14 years old then the motor bike style electric scooter is appropriate. Check with your local authorities to make sure there are no laws, or restrictions regarding the age appropriateness of your scooter selection. Some purchasing factors to consider before you buy are:

Carrying Capacity: The heavier the rider the slower the scooter and the range will be affected as well. Acceleration and top speed are determined by the size of the rider. As a rule of thumb electric scooters for children are built for riders weighing less than 175 lbs.

Distance or Range Per Battery Charge: A better measure of travel capability is riding time or motor run time per charge. This performance aspect can vary significantly depending on battery type which will be reflected in the cost of the scooter. A rough estimate is about 45 minutes of motor "on time" per charge. Factors such as the weight of the rider, and terrain, can affect this performance parameter. The typical distance range is 8 to 10 miles. The range will vary depending on model; just keep in mind the person selling the electric scooter will probably quote a figure that is on the high end of the range. Battery recharge time for a typical scooter battery is 4 to 6 hours. If you have an active youngster you might want to explore a second set of batteries!

Price: Avoid the "kick" style electric scooters that sell for less than $100. These scooters are available at 'big box" retailers and while being functional initially, they probably won't be of the quality and durability that can withstand the scooter jumping and antics of an active 10 year old child. You should be able to purchase a "kick" style electric scooter in the $125 to $275 price range. A durable motor bike style electric scooter should be in the $325 and up price range.

After you have done your research, be sure and check the warranty, and availability of service, and parts. Make sure that spare tires or wheels are readily available, as this is a common failure item. Avoid "no-name" brand electric scooters. Some brands that have positive reputations are X-Treme, Razor, and Schwinn. Check out online stores as many have competitive prices, and good service. Good luck in finding that perfect scooter for your child. You never know what might happen as you watch your child's electric scooter experience unfold. The Bakugan come in lots of colors and varieties that make them fun to collect and trade. Most of them are pocket-sized and easy for your child to carry around and bring over to their friend's houses. Having a magnet that activates the warriors is a clever idea that adds excitement to the game. The Bakugan Launcher (sold separately) is a great accessory, with three shooting modes ("curve," "angle, and "distance" but it doesn't come with any instructions.

Room for the Imagination

We like that this that this game combines skill (aiming your Bakugan) with strategy (placement of the cards). We also enjoyed the way the warriors pop open on the magnetic cards -- although sometimes they do it even when they don't land on the cards. Being unfamiliar with the TV show, we felt a little lost at first in the world of Bakugan. But with the help of the colorful, animated Bakugan Web site, we got the gist of what the game is about and how to play. Our attempts to fire the launcher proved somewhat difficult and instructions would have helped. But the launcher isn't necessary. Kids can simply roll the Bakugan like marbles for a fun and action-packed game with their friends.

Fantastic camera! Exellent photos, video, and battery!
This camera takes excellent photos & videos, and the battery is long-lasting. I just took it on a rim-to-rim hike of the Grand Canyon with 3 days of continuous shooting and I never had to change the battery (I had a spare with me I didn't use). I accidentally dropped this little guy on the ground (rocks) and ended up with only a few superficial scratches (the camera, that is). What a little tank this camera is! I'm very happy with my purchase.

Amazing camera This camera is absolutely amazing!!! Highly recommended. We took over 300 pictures in Yosemite with this camera...the battery lasted several days. There was a lot of smoke in the air and the camera was still able to capture the true beauty of Yosemite. I'm extremely happy I went with the Canon over an Olympus.
